4 Months Natural

12:00:00 AM 3 Comments A+ a-

It's been 4 months since I big chopped and I can't believe how fast time is flying by and how thick my hair is getting. I'm going with a low- to no-manipulation method. I typically wear wash-n-gos during the week and then braid or twist my hair up for the weekend. It seems to really be working because my hair is the healthiest it's been in years. I must be doing something right because everywhere I go, everyone asks what my secret is. LOL

I'm still constantly browsing natural hair blogs for ideas and suggestions but I do realize that everything ain't for everybody. Again, this whole journey is trial and error so for now, I'll stick to what works.

Tell me, what's been working (or not working) for you?

First let me say that you are GLOWing in this pic. You look beautiful!

As you know, my hair is locked. I've only ever washed it with Dr. Bonner's magic soap in the scent of my choice. I have a fav lock butter that's made locally, but one thing that MUST do is use lemon juice to eliminate buildup on my scalp. RealLemon in the bottle will work, but for some reason it's never at the store I shop. So, I squeeze the juice from two lemons whenever I wash my hair.

My daughter's natural is loose like yours. It's extremely dense and thick and challenging. I've waisted a fortune on products. I've recently tried vegetable glicerine. I used that with Knot Today detangler, and this weeks combing episode seemed to go by more smoothly.

@buttahfly - Thanks love! I've heard a couple people mention how much they like glycerin. I guess those of us with loose, thick hair need the extra moisture.

What works for me is a simple routine. CHeap drugstore conditioners for cowashing, Organix cond as my leavin an coconut and olive oil for moisture. I also spritz w/water and glycerin.
