Natural Spotlight Update: Traycee

4:50:00 AM 3 Comments A+ a-

Traycee is a former natural spotlight who big chopped the same month I did (April). It's been 9 months and she's here to share the story of her journey so far.

Last time I interviewed you, you had recently big chopped. Here it is a few months later and your hair is thriving. What’s your secret?
It's thriving wonderfully! I can't believe it will be a year in April since I did the big chop. My secret is water, water, water. Not only on the outside but the inside too. I try to drink at least 68 oz a day.

How has your hair regimen changed?
When I first big chopped, I was co-washing my hair almost daily and trying new products often. Since my hair is a little longer, I only wash 1-2 days a week now. I still deep condition every week. When I was rocking the shorter TWA, I never used oil on my hair. Now I use jojoba oil to seal my ends when I'm doing two-strand twists. I also oil my scalp using Jamaican Black Castor Oil.

Now that it's been a few months, have you run into any hurdles with your hair? Excessive shedding, breakage? What have you done to remedy it?
Shedding is a problem for me. It's not alot but it's enough to bother me. I have strands of curly hair in my products from the shedding. LOL The shedding happens when I'm washing my hair and while I'm doing two-strand twists. I haven't found any remedies for it yet. If anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear them.

Every natural is in search of the “holy grail” when it comes to products. Have you found your go-to product thus far?
I don't know if I have found my "holy grail" yet but Herbal Essence's Hello Hydration Orchid & Coconut Milk Conditioner is my go-to product right now. It's inexpensive and leaves my hair very moisturized and gives it added softness. I have been using this conditioner since I won it months ago on this very site (thanks again Natural & Fab!). Over the last 9 months, I have tried 3 conditioners, including Hello Hydration, that has coconut in it. I realized my hair loves coconut. The 2 other conditioners are Suave Coconut (only $1!) and Curls Coconut conditioner. You can find a few Curls products in Target or on their website at www.curls.biz. Another go-to product I use everytime I co-wash is Shea Moisture Coconut and Hibiscus Curl & Style Conditioning Milk. My hair loves this stuff! When I use this product after co-washing, my hair is never dry. I can go 3-4 days without using anything to moisturize my hair. I only use oil on my scalp, never on my hair. I'm trying not to turn into a product junkie again but I would love to find one product line (or at least 2) to use for all of my hair needs. Right now I use 3-4 different products for co-washing, twisting, moisturizing, and leave-in condition. In the next few months, I plan to try more products from Shea Moisture and Curls.

You introduced me to Jamaican Black Castor Oil and I’m loving it. It’s definitely helping my hair retain moisture better and thicken up. What is it doing for your hair?
I've read on numerous natural hair boards that Jamaican Black Castor Oil (JBCO) work wonders and you will see results in a matter of weeks if you use it almost everyday. They were not lying! I have a tiny bald spot in the front of my hair. You can't see it because my hair covers it up. When I say bald, I mean completely bald. I started massaging that spot twice a day everyday with the JBCO. Within 3 weeks, I saw hair fuzz on the bald spot! I'm still massaging that spot with JBCO along with massaging my scalp every morning and night. I can't tell yet if it's thicken up my hair but I'm sure it is because of the results of the bald spot. I also use this oil with Shea Moisture Deep Treatment Masque when doing a deep condition. After doing the deep condition, my hair is always slipping out of my hands!

Any new styles you’ve tried and loved?
No I haven't tried any new styles yet. I'm a twist-out girl! I do plan on trying bantu knots in the upcoming weeks.
Length check - flat ironed

New Year, New Goals.  Any hair goals for the year?
My hair goal for this year is thicken my hair, especially the edges because they are thin. I plan on eliminating hate until July when I do a length check by getting my hair flat ironed. The picture on the right is my hair flat-ironed on Dec 23. I would like my flat-ironed hair to be bra length by my birthday at the end of July. I would also like the length of my twist-outs in the front to touch my eyebrows by the end of the year.

Let us know how we can keep in touch with you and keep up with your hair journey.
You can keep in touch with me on my blog http://damnbloggerfordeletingmyblog.blogspot.com/ It's not a hair blog but I try to do a hair post at least one month. My current post is about my hair routine.

Will the doctor performing blind dissection be able to adequately account for this variability in the average patient and will he
risk operating on an unwary patient in whom these differences might be profound.
Redheads and folks with course hair will typically be higher shedders than blondes or those with fine hair.
Any cosmetic plastic procedure could be a worthwhile and extraordinary experience
for both the patient and surgeon, if this is done in the
light of surgical standards in term of safety.
