Product Review: Organikah Whipped Shea Butter (Part 2)

Last night I gave the whipped shea butter a try and I must say, it's better than what I thought. I gave myself a scalp scrub by mixing brown sugar and Herbal Essence Hello Hydration conditioner. The consistency was that of a creamy paste since I didn't want the sugar to completely dissolve. [Check out the recipe here.] After rinsing the scrub out, I shampooed with Organix Coconut shampoo. I haven't used this brand since I transitioned so I figured I would use the rest of the bottle. By mixing that with my brown sugar scrub, its pretty safe to say that my hair smelled like birthday cake.

After shampooing, I deep conditioned and rinsed with cold water. I normally don't twist my hair while it's wet (I prefer 80% dry) so this time I did a wet twist. I sprayed my strands with Jane Carter Solutions Leave-In conditioner and massaged it in. Next, I sectioned my hair into 4 sections and spread the Organikah whipped shea butter mixture into each section. (Note: when you're done, your hair will have a slight white tint to it. It's ok. It will fade when your hair dries and not leave any buildup.) I opted for my latest protective style: flat twists. Before twisting each section, I ran my denman brush through it and applied a little (dime size) eco styler gel to give it a little hold. I sealed my ends with Vatika coconut oil and wrapped my hair.

I'm pretty happy with the results. I've come to really like flat twists so far. They are pretty quick to do (took me about 20 minutes to do my whole head) and last for a few days. I plan to keep these in until Friday or Saturday. In the meantime I'll keep rocking my beanie.
