Last week I took to the internet in search of hair butters and clay to use when cleansing my hair. It's no secret that deep cleaning helps remove product build from the hair follicle as well as the scalp. Naptural85's deep cleansing mud wash video prompted me to order some rhassoul clay to substitute for my bentonite clay, so I can't wait to see the results.

What's a a deep cleaning without added moisture? Dry hair, that's what. While ordering my clay, I also searched for hair butters to use. Essential Wholesale and Labs has samples of all butters for just $1 so I ordered several of them that were known for their moisturizing hair and skin. As someone who suffers form severe dry skin, I can't wait to see if they work for me.

From left to right: Mango butter, rhassoul clay, macademia nut butter and kukui butter

Rhassoul Clay: Studies that shown that Moroccan Rhassoul Clay reduces dryness, improves skin clarity and elasticity and has extractive abilities that remove impurities and unblock pores, even stubborn blackheads. As a hair treatment, Moroccan Rhassoul Clay cleanses the hair, removing impurities, and leaves hair bouncy and voluminous.

Mango Butter: Mango butter is obtained from the kernels of the mango tree. It has a high content of stearic acid which makes it similar to cocoa butter in properties, but this butter is soft not hard. It has only been refined once thus leaving it in more pure state as opposed to the harder Mango Butters sold by competitors. It has good emolliency and lends a protective effect against the sun. It is said to prevent drying of the skin and formation of wrinkles. It reduces degeneration of skin cells and restores flexibility.

Macadamia Nut Butter: Pressed from the macadamia nut, which is an evergreen tree grown mainly in Hawaii. Macadamia nut oil is similar to sebum, the oil naturally produced by human skin to protect it. Absorbs well into the skin, is highly emollient and soothing. Contains magnesium and thiamin.

Kukui Nut Butter: Kukui Nut Butter is easily absorbed by the skin. It is high in linoleic and linolenic acids which are essential fatty acids vital for the metabolism of healthy skin. Kukui nut butter would make a great addition to a product for treating dry and/or damaged skin.
