Negative Hair Comments
This Thanksgiving was the first time many members of my family have seen my natural since earlier in my journey. It's grown significantly and I was curious to hear what many would have to say about it. Would they clown me, would they inquire about what I've done, would they encourage me to keep it up? I had no idea what would come from their mouths but the most interesting comment came from my grandmother. |

Me:Yes ma'am.
GM: Hmmm...it doesn't look nappy anymore.
Me: Um, ok. It looked nappy before?
GM: Yes, like it was dry all the time. I like it now, I like it curly like that.
Me: Wow, you just called me nappy. LOL
I understand what she was trying to say and it didn't hurt my feelings but it could have been taken in negative light.
How do you deal with negative comments others have about your hair?

Write commentsLol @Grandma! Yeah, my grandmother just looked at my hair and started laughing. I was like, "what's sos funny!" But she never actually commented. My dad wanted to know "what was going on" with my hair (he lives 600 miles away and it was his first time seeing it up close). Before the night was over, he pulled me to the side (I don't know why it was a secret) and said he actually liked it ;) Either way, makes me no difference what my family thinks, it's not about them. They still gonna accept and love me regardless so my motto is, Deal with it! Lol, glad you had a wonderful Thanksgiving!
ReplyMy hair too is natural! My family always has something to say about it... I'm used to it. My hair has been natural all my life so... I take it all in stride... most of the time. Great post! I love your hair!
ReplyUgh! I'm transitioning and the comments have already started. Some positive, some negative. I'm learning not to let it get to me. I understand some people have not become as enlightened as me. LOL. Great pic! Your hair looks pretty.
