Product Review: Curls of the World Just Flax, Curl Defining Gel
Rhian Sharp, owner and creator of Curls of the World Natural Hair Products was kind of enough to send me samples of her line and I am really happy to share my review of the Just The Flax (Curl Defining Gel). I have never used flaxseed gel before and I have heard nothing but great things about it. I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked with my hair. This product can be applied to wet or dry hair. I applied it to my dry hair (7 day old twistout) each day. I would smooth about a quarter dollar size into my palm and smooth it on my hair and my curls as a styling gel.
Ingredients
Flaxseed gel, aloe vera juice, glycerin, rosemary oil, rose essential oil, grapefruit see extract, potassium sorbate (a natural preservative)
Consistency
Slightly watery and not sticky
Smell
Somewhat strong and tangy, like grapefruit or methanol but it doesn't linger in your hair
What did I think
I like this product. It's not sticky, as I imagined flaxseed gel would be and the smell wasn't too strong or overpowering. My hair seemed to really soak this stuff up fast, which is something I look for with a product since I have really dry, dense curls. I adore blue bottles and I love the blue bottle that it came in. Do not expect this product to substitute for the hold the regular gel gives you. It targeted towards giving your hair moisture and definition and not hold. I could see myself incorporating it into my daily hair care routine. It is definitely lighter than the more cream-based products I use in smoothing.

Write commentsLove the puff with the pink shirt. I have never used flax seed gel either. Did you use it to smooth your edges or to actually twist your hair?

Thanks! I used it to smooth my edges down. I'm not sure I would use it to twist my hair since my tends to respond better to creamy products. Perhaps I will try mixing it with something creamy to see what sort of definition I get.
ReplyYour puff is so pretty and thick!

ReplyCan this product be purchased from any beauty supply store?
ReplyYou can make flaxseed gel at home for hardly nothing!
Replyall you need is:
flaxseed (I found a bag at a produce market for 1.37)
aloe vera (if you want....but you dont need)...also cheap to come by
water (i used my brita)
boil water (2-3cups), add 2tbs seed...test consistency as you boil..when its thickened, strain, cool and use...make small batches and keep in ya fridge (has no nasty preservatives)
Sistahs!...stop spending on these store bought non natural products for your hair $$$$$
I agree - make your own...I've been making it for over a year - my hair is growing like a crazy and I don't ever use anything else (no oils or anything) - just the flax seed gel. I don't even put oils in my gel - just 100% flax...I buy 2lbs of flax for 3 bucks! and it makes 5-6 months worth of gel. I have it made from start to finish in 10 mins.(including clean up) My recipe is similar to above except I use 1/4 cup of seeds...2 cups of water. SAVES A TON OF MONEY!!!
